Reading Log
Word PDF A simple reading log to promote communication between teacher and parents while recording the student's reading progress. Reading Log (Updated) Word PDF My students needed extra work with making text to self/text/world connections. This log was created to record their reading as well as have them reflect on each book. |
A to Z Reading Folders
I recommend A to Z Reading and Raz Kids. I used them to run a levelled take-home reading program. My Take Home Reading Program Day 1 - (RAZ) Students pick their books and listen to it online. (AtoZ) They take home a printed copy to read to family during the week. (See Reading Log above.) Day 2 - (RAZ) Students read the book. Day 3 - One on one or small group activity with the teacher on the student's needed skill development. Day 4 - (AtoZ) Complete worksheet from the story that matches Wednesday's activity. Day 5 - (Raz) Comprehension questions. To collect the paper resources needed for running this program, I printed out the resources from A to Z Reading and put them in labelled folders (using the pocketbook version for the label.) Running Record Chart
I use the RazKids reading program to perform running records and identify the students' reading levels and skills. The results are recorded on this chart so I can keep track of their results, student/teacher conference occurs to create a reading plan and stickers for the levelled reading program placed in their folders. Student Teacher Conference Page for the Running Records I fill in the results from their running record and highlight the areas of difficulty. The student and I meet to go over these results and identify one skill they will work on through reading reflections, buddy reading practice or another activity. Once that skill has been developed we move to the next one or re-do the running record to see if they are ready to move to a higher level. |
