About the Blogger
My name is Jenny-Lyn and I am an educator who has an interest in adult, elementary (Grade 1 to 6) and ESL education. I was born in Ontario, Canada and finished a Humanities B.A. at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. I was fortunate to gain three years of teaching experience with adult learners in Japan but was ready to return to the classroom after completing a Diploma of Education in Melbourne, Australia. I taught ESL students between 5 and 12 years of age in Nunavut Canada, before moving to Ottawa in 2015. I am a Kindergarten teacher with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board. I also work with a few adult ESL learners evenings and weekends to help them reach their language goals.
Education is a treasure that follows its owner everywhere. (Chinese Proverb)
About the Site
This site was initially created to help me collect ideas and thoughts about teaching in an easily assessable format. Especially since my profession has taken me to various locations around the world and the baggage limitations when moving between them. However, it has also developed into a means to connect with other educators and further the conversation of supporting students.
All the materials and the majority of activities have been used successfully in the classroom. However, a few additional activities have been added as I reflected on the units and brainstormed ways to improve scaffolding and incorporate other topics (e.g. health, science). The outline provided is only a guideline and therefore open to the needs of your classroom and time constraints.
All downloadable materials were created by me. In the case of worksheets from other sources, I have provided a link to the original source and some fees may apply for the use of these materials.
Please feel comfortable to use and share any of the resources, pictures or lesson ideas. I am happy to answer any questions or provide further support on implementing the ideas in your classroom.
